Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane Offers Internship Positions 2010

Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane is currently offering two internship positions:  i. Education Internship ii. Collections Internship.

The internships are designed to extend the interns’ knowledge and understanding of how a museum works with specific reference to the gallery’s education programme and collections department; as well as gaining familiarity with the prodigious collection of the Gallery.

i. Outline of Education Internship

The education intern will be responsible for the following:

• The administration and management of school tours and bookings
• The registration for all drawing and children workshops / summer camps
• To deliver tours and assist on or deliver workshops as necessary
• To assist the Education Curator in the day to day running of education programmes and marketing for the same

ii. Outline Collections Internship

The collections intern will assist the collections department with:

• the documentation of the Gallery’s collection and artists’ files for example researching and adding details of exhibition histories, bibliographical references , descriptions and images where necessary to the collections database (TMS);
• Responding positively and in an informed way to collections queries from students, curators and researchers nationally and internationally;
• Assist with duties associated with exhibiting the collection including writing painting labels, updating information on the Gallery’s website, E-Museum;
• Opportunity to deliver gallery talks on the collection;
• Assisting with other duties as necessary.

Qualifications for both Internships:
• The candidate must have an art history or fine art degree
• Computer skills necessary

• For education internship, experience in arts education preferable, but not necessary
• Experience in blogging and social networking preferable

There may also be an opportunity to develop a personal project to your own interest that will be of benefit to The Hugh Lane.

Please note that this is an unpaid internship and is open to both graduates and professionals. The internship is available for a minimum of three and up to six month duration, with a minimum commitment of 3 days a week.
