About Hugh Lane Conservation
Conservators at the Hugh Lane care for the collection, presenting artworks in the best possible condition and aiming to preserve them for the long-term enjoyment of visitors to the gallery. Conservators advise on suitable environmental conditions, art handling, storing and display of artworks to prevent damage and degradation occurring. They may also actively intervene where degradation has occurred, perhaps due to the natural ageing of an object, adverse environmental conditions or even poor handling or accidental damage. Conservators often collaborate with external specialists to devise appropriate treatments and to carry out technical analysis of artworks. They also work with living artists to discuss suitable methods for the treatment of contemporary art in the collection, and to establish policies for the care of artworks that are, increasingly, highly challenging in terms of their fragility and their ephemeral nature. |
