Sunday Lecture: Patriot, Patron and Painter
Casement, Darling and Lavery in the Court of Appeal with Kenneth McConkey
2pm, Sunday 12th June
In the winter of 1916, as he worked on High Treason, John Lavery was preoccupied with issues of personal and national identity. In two fateful days in July, Lavery had witnessed ‘a man’s life at stake…in the drowsy monotony’ of the courtroom presided over by Mr Justice Darling. In that moment what does one believe? And what does one do? Kenneth McConkey, whose John Lavery, A Painter and His World was published in 2010, will consider these questions and Lavery’s position.
Free, no booking necessary.
