Join us for an in-gallery talk and conversation about the objects which Irish delegates of the Anglo-Irish Treaty negotiations used 100 years ago. They are on display in the exhibition Studio & State: The Laverys and the Anglo-Irish Treaty at the National Museum of Ireland alongside 15 paintings by John and Hazel Lavery and propaganda handbills from 1922. Which hopes and intentions do the objects and paintings represent and which meanings may they hold today?

The Studio and State Talks Programme is a monthly talks programme at Hugh Lane Gallery in association with the offsite exhibition Studio & State: The Laverys and the Anglo-Irish Treaty - a co-curated exhibition by Hugh Lane Gallery and the National Museum of Ireland.

It marks the centenary of the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty in December 1921. The exhibition takes place at the National Museum’s Collins Barracks.

Dr Edith Andrees is a cultural historian and curator of the metalwork, numismatics and scientific instruments collections at the National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History. Alongside Logan Sisley, she is co-curator of the exhibition Studio & State: The Laverys and the Anglo-Irish Treaty. Her research interests include historical narratives and their accessibility in museums. Edith has worked on a number of participative arts and history projects for the National Museum’s Irish Decade of Centenaries programme.
