Public Lecture: Chinese Jade: An Introduction, in association with the Chinese New Year Festival and the Irish Decorative and FIne Art Society
Lecturer: Professor Alan Fletcher MRIA
Porcelain treasures have seen a huge interest in recent years, especially those that were exported in thousands from China to the West from the 18th century onwards. Jade has not escaped this fascination. The precious stone, with the earliest examples dating back to 6000BC in the Dushan region, will be the focus of Professor Fletcher's lecture for DCNYF. Linking with the newly established Irish Decorative and Fine Arts Society, this illustrated lecture will explore the history of this world-renowned stone from the vivid kingfisher green jade to Imperial jade, to 'khotan' white jade and to the collection of the 18th-century jade-obsessed Chinese Emporer Qianlong. This lecture on the stone of heaven is a must for lovers of all precious objects.
