Martin Johnson cello, Jane O'Leary piano

Martin Johnson, Principal Cellist in the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, has devised a programme of new work together with composers Jane O’Leary, Grainne Mulvey and Dermot McDermott alongside a premiere of James Wilson’s Sonata for cello and piano op.172.  The three composers were commissioned by Martin with funds from the Arts Council and the new pieces were written through a collaborative process over several months. The result is a fascinating exploration of the vast capabilities of the cello in a variety of contexts.
