Schubert: Quintet in C major, D 956

The Irish Baroque Orchestra Chamber Soloists will present Schubert's powerful and moving string quintet in April, led by artistic director and Grammy-nominee, Monica Huggett.

Featuring the unusual combination of 2 cellos, 2 violins and viola, the quintet was completed in 1828 only a few short months before the composer's death, and is widely regarded as a masterpiece, with its evocative richness unmatched to date in this genre.

The IBO and its smaller ensemble, IBOCS, usually performs repertoire of the 17^th and 18^th centuries.  However, the Schubert recital offers audiences a glimpse of Romantic Vienna - a rare chance to enjoy  this tremendous music performed on period instruments as audiences in the 1830's would have heard it.
