Hugh Lane Transition Year Programme January 2023 application form is available here. The closing date for completed applications is 11 November 2022*
The dates of our TY course are Tuesday 24 January 2023 - Thursday 2 February 2023, 10am-2.30pm (six day course, Tuesdays-Thursdays)
Founded in 1908, the Hugh Lane Gallery is regarded as one of the first modern art galleries in the world. Founded by Hugh Lane, a Cork-born art dealer and collector together with Dublin Corporation and a varied and distinguished body of supporters, the Gallery’s collection of Irish and international art also includes stained glass by Harry Clarke and the renowned studio of Francis Bacon. In addition there are dynamic programmes of temporary exhibitions and education as well as a conservation programme. During this two week in person course you will gain an insight into the operations of the gallery through illustrated talks and discussions with gallery curators, artists and lecturers. You will discover more about some of the social, artistic, political and economic innovators represented in the Gallery’s collection as well as explore themes arising from our current exhibitions. Where relevant you will also complete assignments in your own time which are subsequently shared and discussed with the group and artist.
Please note: You do not have to be studying art or intending to study art to participate in this online TY course. What is required is curiosity, enthusiasm, a willingness to participate, actively contribute to discussions and complete assignments.
Jessica O’Donnell, Head of Education and Community Outreach, Hugh Lane Gallery.
